CONTRACT UPDATE May 1, 2008  We have had 2 meetings with the State assigned Mediator and have made progress but NOT enough to facilitate an agreement between the Union and the County.  We are still hopeful the Mediator can bring both parties into an agreement worth bringing back to the membership for ratification.  The Mediator has been in contact with both parties since the last meeting on 4/10/08 trying to do just that.  When we have that agreement (or realization that there is no agreement!) we will let you all know.  If we do have something we will be bringing it back to you ASAP! If we don’t, we will be moving into Fact Finding which will extend over the next couple of months.  We are fighting to get our BEST possible deal for all 4,000 members that we can agree to with the County and with the Mediator’s help we will be successful. But, as with any contract agreement the key word is agreement by both parties.  It is not the Union, by itself, which is holding up the agreement!! Jack McPhillips, President
