César
Chávez was a folk hero and symbol of hope to millions of Americans.
In 1962, he and a few others set out to organize a union of farm
workers. Nearly everyone told them it was impossible. But for a time
they succeeded beyond anyone's wildest imaginings. An ardent advocate
of nonviolence, Chávez was one of the most inspirational labor
leaders of the 20th century, with an influence that stretched far
beyond the California fields.

Patrick’s Day parade in White Plains on
Saturday, March 13th, 2010.
Details of where we will meet will follow. The parade route is
Mamaroneck Ave, from Bloomingdale Road to City Hall on Main Street
and starts at noon.
Please contact the CSEA Unit 9200 office at 914-995-2151 to
register, and include your family and friends. Participating
in the parade is a lot of fun and will show the residents of WP who
the CSEA members of Westchester County are.

the County Center. This is per the Ned McCormack Message:
"The County
Executive will give a presentation about the county’s
fiscal crunch and discuss possible short and long-term
solutions. A Q&A session will follow. Employees are invited to
submit questions in advance online on the intranet. Written
questions will also be accepted at the door and a microphone will
be available at the event. Parking is free. You’ll need your
county ID for admission."

meeting and ask any questions you have to Westchester County
Executive Astorino. Please wear your CSEA 9200 jacket, lanyard, hat,
sweatshirt or anything else that you have that designates you as a

your local and unit. Lobby Day is one of the most popular annual
events and demonstrates, in person, that we are voters and
taxpayers as well as AFSCME/CSEA members.
Since the start of organized labor, meeting and
discussing issues with all levels of our elected officials has been
one of the most important function of unions. Join in to
continue this long tradition of participating in positive
efforts!
Comfort buses will depart from Westchester, Rockland, Orange and
Dutchess counties.

Congratulations to all for their service to the Department of Public
Works and the residents of Westchester County.
The
County Clerk Planned Demonstration Walk is Successful Before it
Actually Happens!
County Clerk office workers, members of CSEA, were un-happy with
the discontinuation of the flex time 4 day work week and the
resumption of traditional, old fashioned 9-5 work hours for the
workers and public alike. This was explained as being necessary
because of a huge work backlog brought on by the reduced budget and
the inability to hire more full time employees. We
planned our demonstration and sent out email notice to our members
on Aug 27th. The result we hoped for was agreed to by the County
Clerk on the same day. Flex time is back effective Sept. 2;
workers will use the 90 minutes each day before and after public
hours to reduce the backlog. Their family schedules will
return to the normalcy they have known with flex-time since
1994.

on June 23 that we're anxious to settle a fair contract for our
families. Real negotiations by the County administration is
what we expect, not vulgar insults and empty promises. We reminded
them Election Day is so close!
