CSEA
ratifies new contract with Orange County government
Sixteen months of negotiations paid off yesterday as
the Orange County CSEA unit rank and file approved a new four-year
contract with the county government.

The pact, which is retroactive to January 1,
2003, was approved 1,325 to 174. Over 2,200 county employees are
impacted by the contract.
Union spokeswoman Janice Marra said the contract is
a “fair agreement”. It provides raises of three percent for each
of the first three years and four percent for the last year, maintains
current health insurance levels and a fully paid lunch hour for
current employees.
Orange County wanted to cut that to a half hour. The
compromise was that incoming employees would get an hour lunch, but
only be paid for half of that.
County Executive Edward Diana also (tried to) cut a coffee break from
the workers, but the agreement restored that.
The county legislature must now approve the pact at
its May meeting.
