The CSEA WORK INSTITUTE
distributes booklets that help CSEA Union
Members prepare
for state and local
government civil service exams.
Booklets coincide with various
areas listed on civil service announcements under "Subject of
Examinations."
Please
read your examination notice to determine the "Subject of
Examination" topics of the exam and therefore which of the Test
Prep Books you will need.
These booklets are available
free on-line to CSEA Union Members
in Adobe Acrobat pdf *
format.
Each book is a large file
of 50 to 60 or more pages; use a high speed internet connection such
as in an office to download and print. If you can print to a copier/printer, try printing them
double-sided.
You can download the
booklets by clicking the blue banner below.
If you are a CSEA Union member, you will have to
register for free and create a Username and Password to get to the
free booklets.

as "Understanding and Interpreting Written Material",
topics typically found on civil service exams.

Learning Center is
an internet retailer that has over 5,000 book titles for test
preparation and study (not free). Their web site is
www.passbooks.com.

The
NY State Civil Service web site
has some very brief Study Guides free for downloading in pdf
format.
The site has information on local governments
throughout New York State and links to the local city and county web
sites.
Exam Fees:
Current CSEA
Westchester County employees
who take Promotional Exams shall pay only $15.00.
For
each $15.00 fee, current CSEA employees may take a maximum of two
promotional exams on the same test date. This is per our
current CSEA union contract, page 38.
Be certain
to pay the reduced fee. The County HR office might not inform
you when applying for an exam.
The customary $25.00 fee still applies
for each Open Competitive exam.
