Tuition
Reimbursement Benefit
for 2005 Course Expenses
The Tuition Reimbursement payments to 112 CSEA County and College
employees who
applied and were approved were mailed out on June 16th (County) and
June 20th (College) of 2006. A
total of $350,000 was reimbursed to our 112 members for their 2005
calendar year expenses. The $350,000 tuition reimbursement program
is one of the negotiated benefits in our CSEA Unit 9200 Union
Contract.
The Tuition Reimbursement
Committee is comprised of
members of the County administration, CSEA Unit 9200 union members,
and members of other unions. They cooperatively meet several times after the
application deadline date and review all applications. Approximately
$454,827 of tuition expenses were approved by the Committee for CSEA
members. Dividing the $350,000 available for reimbursement by
the $454,827 approved sum produced a 77% reimbursement
rate.
The
same percentage is applied to approved tuition expense amounts for other
applicants in other unions and those employees who are non-represented.
-The
application filing deadline was Jan 9, 2006. An employee must be on
County or College payroll before, during, and at the completion of the
course, as well as when the reimbursement checks are issued to get the
reimbursement. Eligible courses must end by 12/31/05 and be at least 20
classroom hours in length. Only tuition is eligible; not books, fees,
or supplies. Applicants must achieve grades of C (2.0 GPA on a 4.0
scale) for courses. Reimbursement above $5,250 is taxed
per Federal law H.R. 1836.
-The Joint Westchester County/Union Tuition Reimbursement Committee
reviews and approves tuition cost applications. The committee is
composed of members of the County administration, CSEA Unit 9200
members, and members of other unions. The expired application form and all
detailed policies pertaining to this benefit is available here as a pdf
file for reference only:
